A new dam threatens the upper Boise River. The Twin Springs Dam site is located 47 miles east of Boise, not far upstream from Arrowrock Reservoir. If built as designed a few decades ago, the dam would inundate 8 miles of the Middle Fork Boise, 4 miles of the North Fork Boise and one mile of Sheep Creek.
The Boise River is a state protected river and segments are eligible for federal Wild & Scenic River protection. The river is home to healthy populations of Bull Trout, a species that is in threat of extinction. In spite of the environmental issues and the tremendous recreational values provided by a free-flowing Boise River, the state of Idaho and other parties continue to consider building a dam at Twin Springs.

"To Members of the Idaho Water Resource Board:
The North Fork and Middle Fork Boise Rivers are two of Idaho's most popular rivers. They are protected by the state of Idaho because of their outstanding fish and wildlife habitat and recreational diversity. Building a dam at Twin Springs would destroy miles of these unique free-flowing rivers. We urge you to reject the option of building a dam at Twin Springs and, instead, use the state's limited resources to investigate less harmful and less expensive alternatives."
