It's time to add "Protect Rivers and Fish" to your list of reasons to reduce energy use.
Not only is the production of thermoelectricity the biggest user of water in the United States, robbing rivers and lakes of much needed water, but rivers are the ground zero for climate change. Our warming and increasingly erratic weather could wipe out native fish species, pollute rivers with sediment and require more withdrawals for irrigation and drinking water.
By reducing the electricity you use, you will help current supplies stretch further. Less demand means less water used and less pollution released.
