Boise River-Public Meetings on CUMO Mine Exploration

Idaho City, ID– Public comment will be accepted by the Idaho City District Ranger until September 1 on an Environmental Assessment for a proposed drilling operation on national forest lands by a privately owned mining company in the Grimes Pass area.
The proposed project approximately 14 miles north of Idaho City would consist of drilling approximately 260 exploratory holes and constructing 10 to 13 miles of new temporary access roads. This project is to evaluate the economic feasibility of molybdenum and copper.
Three public meetings are planned during the 30 day public comment period. Meetings will occur in the following areas:
Crouch Community Hall, Crouch, Idaho, August 7, noon to 3pm Doubletree Riverside Hotel, Boise, Idaho, August 12, 6-9 pm Idaho City Community Center, Idaho City, Idaho, August 13, 4-7 pm Public comment is welcome on the proposed project and the analysis of its potential effects. “The Ranger District has not received any proposals for the development of a mine and this analysis is focused only on the current proposal,” said Idaho City District Ranger Barbara Levesque. “Any further proposals from this company regarding additional operations, or mine development, would be analyzed in a separate analysis.” The assessment is available from the Boise National Forest website.
