Idaho River Talks: The ecological recovery of a mining-damaged Idaho stream.

  • Idaho River Sports (map)

Idaho is a state blessed with beautiful rivers and deep, plentiful deposits of minerals. On November 27, join us for an informative evening at Idaho River Sports with U.S. Geological Survey scientist, Christopher Mebane.

This month we will be exploring effects of mining on Idaho’s streams and rivers, particularly Panther Creek. Panther Creek is the historic site of Blackbird Mine, a copper and cobalt mining site dating back to the 1880s. Invasive extraction processes destroyed the local ecosystem such that local streams flowed bright red and eerie neon blues.

Christopher Mebane considers himself a “dirty water biologist” and knows the former Blackbird Mine site perhaps better than anyone.

In the interest of current events, Panther Creek is in the spotlight again, as ePower Metals Inc. is actively implementing new cobalt mining plans.

Lite snacks and beverages will be provided!
