The city of Pocatello is ready to redefine its relationship with its river: the Portneuf. A group of citizens, organizations and scientists has been organizing an extensive study to identify ways the community can revitalize and draw attention to the river.
The Portneuf River Vision Study highlights the necessity to revive the river through town, where in some places it has moved beyond neglect to degradation. Once the study’s findings are implemented, the community of Pocatello will benefit from a new relationship with its river, providing improved fish and wildlife habitat, new opportunities for residents and visitors to recreate and improved water quality, among other clear benefits.
Idaho Rivers United is proud to provide support to the Portneuf River Vision Study.
“Local citizens have done a lot of work building a vision for a more sustainable relationship with their river,” said IRU Executive Director Kevin Lewis. “We’re excited to see this type of vision being developed and implemented and look forward to collaborating on the project.”
