IRU’s 2024 River Stewardship Programs

We are excited to announce that our 2024 River Stewardship program applications are open!

Our Urban River Stewardship Program is designed to create stronger advocates for the Boise River through stewardship, education, and community engagement. This is a self guided stewardship opportunity that runs from April 10th - September 30th. Stewards are responsible for completing three activities that contribute to the overall health of the Boise River watershed. Activities include participating in river bank clean-ups, conducting water quality surveys, and spreading awareness about the health of the Boise River at local community events.

All stewards are required to complete a mandatory, in-person training on April 10, 2024 from 5:30-7:30PM at Roots Zero Waste Market in Garden City, Idaho.

This training will provide you with the essential knowledge and tools needed to complete this program successfully. We will also dive into the history of the Boise River, its importance to our local communities, and offer insights about current issues affecting the Boise River watershed.

To sign-up please complete the Boise Urban River Stewardship Application linked HERE. Applications are open until April 5, 2024.

In addition, our Salmon River Stewardship Program applications are also available. This program is dedicated to safeguarding the Salmon River in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area (SNRA). As a Salmon River Steward, your role involves actively participating in self-led stewardship activities including riverbank clean-ups, removing invasive plant species, dismantling fire rings, and providing information about preventing the spread of invasive species, protecting fish and their habitat, and Leave No Trace practices.

To complete the program, stewards are required to complete four (4-6 hour) days of activities along the Salmon River in the SNRA and attend a mandatory training on June 8, 2024 at the FS Ranger Station in Stanley, Idaho. This training will provide you with the necessary knowledge and tools needed to successfully participate in the stewardship program and will also give you an opportunity to connect with like-minded river and conservation enthusiasts.

To sign-up, please complete the Salmon River Stewardship Application linked HERE. Applications are open until the end of May 2024.
