Our Work
Idaho Rivers United is approaching a pivotal window of time for many of our largest campaigns, and also sees the next three to five years as a prime opportunity to achieve some of our greatest accomplishments.
As we continue to fight for the protections and safeguards that the rivers of Idaho deserve, we will continue to focus on our primary campaigns; Salmon and steelhead protections and restoration, Wild and Scenic Rivers, Clean Water Policy and Mining Reform, Hydropower Reform, and River Recreation and Public Access. Over the next year and a half, we have several high-priority projects and programs within these categories:

Wild & Scenic River Protections
Idaho’s rivers are invaluable and need to be protected for the outstanding and remarkable qualities that make them so incredible. Designating rivers as Wild & Scenic is one of the key ways to ensure our rivers are protected today and into the future. IRU is currently working on Wild & Scenic protections for a handful of rivers across the state.
Hydropower Reform
As Idaho’s urban centers and communities grow, so do their impacts on our rivers and water quality. Clean water is essential for our communities and wildlife, and there is an increasing need for water stewardship and improving water quality standards across the state.
