The members, supporters and employees of Idaho Rivers United share basic values and beliefs that drive all organizational efforts. The ecological integrity of Idaho's rivers and streams must be protected and restored. IRU must provide consistent and credible leadership for river conservation in Idaho that empowers the public to take action on behalf of our rivers. IRU supports a culture of open communication, teamwork and productive dialogue among the staff and board, and honors its role as a community organization that emphasizes the importance of its members, volunteers and allies.
Idaho Rivers United, an Idaho-based non-profit conservation organization dedicated to protecting Idaho's rivers and fisheries. We are looking for a leader who will take our organization to the next level and broaden our impact. IRU is well established with a strong grassroots membership, a dedicated Board of Directors and 5 FTE staff, a strong funding base, and a proven record of success. The Executive Director must have a passion for rivers, and is responsible for leading and managing staff, fundraising, coordinating programs, communications with foundations, political leaders, donors, members, board, media, and the public.
Desired knowledge, skills, abilities: Exceptional knowledge of river conservation and environmental issues, a visionary leader for strategic planning, staff management, and program planning, finance and budgeting, strong written & verbal communications, public speaking, ability to convince, inspire, persuade, solve problems, resolve disputes. Master’s degree or equivalent experience or minimum of 5-8 years’ experience preferably in a senior conservation position
Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated success in fundraising, conservation work and strong environmental policy knowledge of Idaho or the Pacific NW. Excellent communications skills and ability to build and develop strong relationships and work with diverse people and situations.
The position is full-time in Boise, Idaho, population approximately 225,000, fourth largest city in the Pacific Northwest with amenities and good schools, minutes away from world class whitewater, hiking, mountain biking, camping, skiing, fishing & hunting.
