River RAT info session: Nez Perce-Clearwater Forest plan: join us 1/23 at 6pm MST

Join Idaho Rivers United, American Rivers, and American Whitewater on January 23rd at 6:00 PM mst for the next installment of our River Advocacy Training (River RAT) series as we break down the new Nez Perce-Clearwater Forest Plan. We will cover its major threats to rivers and aquatic ecosystems, and what our organizations are doing to fight and push back against this disastrous plan from the U.S. Forest Service .

Now spanning ten years of development, we had hoped this updated management plan would advance conservation efforts and balance all beneficial uses across the vast 4 million-acre Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest that is home to some of the most pristine, cold, clear streams in the state, and is a healthy and critical habitat for wildlife including Chinook salmon and bull trout.

Unfortunately, the FEIS and Draft Record of Decision published in November 2023 revealed quite the opposite, proposing new management regimes that will diminish conservation gains at the expense of increased timber production everywhere outside designated Wilderness Areas within the Forest.

Encompassing cherished rivers such as the South Fork and North Fork Clearwater, Selway, Lochsa, and many others, we hope you'll join us if you want to speak up for these rivers, and perhaps have spent time recreating in this area. Our panel will explain the basics of Forest Management planning and how we got to this point, explain the key takeaways that our organizations have identified, and have some time to answer any questions that you may have.

Join us to stay informed and learn what threats made their way into the final plan. We will keep you informed of other ways to take action in the coming months. You can learn more about the campaign here and read another blog post here.
