
Urban River Stewards Program
Urban River Stewards make a difference for their local river.
The Urban River Stewards (URS) program is a cohort of volunteers who commit on an annual basis to in-depth stewardship efforts on their local river. These volunteers conduct water quality monitoring, lead cleanup efforts, and engage in community education.
At the end of the program, the collected data is compiled into an annual report card. This report highlights water quality trends and total annual volume of trash removal, consolidating information from multiple organizations and partners. This becomes a powerful tool for the local community to advocate for their local river resources.
Urban River Stewards program piloted in 2024 in Boise. In 2025, it expanded to include a larger part of Treasure Valley. Future plans include expansion into Idaho Falls, Coeur d’Alene, and other urban centers across Idaho as program sponsorship and partnerships allow.
