Boise River Stewardship Program

Boise River Stewards make a difference for their local river.

The Boise River Stewardship (BRS) program is a cohort of volunteers who commit on an annual basis to in-depth stewardship efforts on their local river. These volunteers conduct water quality monitoring, lead cleanup efforts, and engage in community education.

At the end of the program, the collected data is compiled into an annual report card. This report highlights water quality trends and total annual volume of trash removal, consolidating information from multiple organizations and partners. This becomes a powerful tool for the local community to advocate for their local river resources.

Urban River Stewards program piloted in 2024 in Boise. In 2025, it expanded to include a larger part of Treasure Valley. Future plans include expansion into Idaho Falls, Coeur d’Alene, and other river-centric locations across Idaho as program sponsorship and partnerships allow. Because of that, we have renamed the entire program as the Idaho River Stewards. Each ‘chapter’ of the program will carry its local river into the name. For example, in the Treasure Valley it will be the Boise River Stewards.

2025 Boise River Stewardship was made possible thanks to program support from
